Yunnan provincial government has made a strategic decision of building Qujing into a modernized industrial city and a metropolis at the source of the Pearl River. In light of the strategic goal, urban Qujing will, by 2020, develop into a modernized industrial city with 100 sq. km in area and 1 million people in population. It is the task of Qujing Economic and Technological Development Zone to construct a new city area with an area of 40 sq. km and a population of 400,000.
